My Role: Lead Designer
What I did: brand identity & website redesign
Brittany of Five by Five Film Photography reached out for assistance in branding her business. She had already built a presence over the years for documentary style wedding, family and maternity photography, and was finally ready to take her business to the next level with what she considered her "brand becoming" — not a rebrand, not a fresh build, but an evolution, an illustration of what she'd already created.
In the questionnaire I send all my branding clients, Brittany described her photography business as "real people, real moments, real life. Not a photoshoot, but a day to document true love and real connection." She described her brand personality as "nostalgic, romantic and real." She leaned most into minimalist, soft and whimsical styles so, after a few different iterations, we ended up with this: a collection of three illustrative logos that look vintage, soft and romantic.
A simple illustration style a strong serif offers the sense of trust and belonging that Brittany wanted to evoke with her branding. The alternate font is whimsical and nostalgic, a light and flowing script and the color palette is warm and moody, replicating her in-the-moment, documentary style photographs and her use of both film and digital cameras.
The website that followed was created on ShowIt. Brittany gave me full reign on how it would look saying she had no idea where to start, so I did what I do best and continued to curate the design in the direction I believed she wanted. Lo and behold, she had no edits for the design (apart from some small text changes have been made since handing things over to her). The design offers a rich and moody atmosphere that matches what her ideal client is looking for in a wedding or family photographer.
